1. Discuss the letters. Who writes them, to whom are they written, and why are they written? What is Walton’s goal in making this trip? What span of time do the letters cover? How do the letters set up a story-within-a-story?

2. Why does Walton what a friend? What sort of friend does he want? What does Walton think of his crew? What qualities was he looking for when he selected them?

3. Describe Victor’s childhood and his relationship with Elizabeth. Who is Henry Clerval? Why does he come to Ingolstadt? How does he help Victor?
